Tehran, September 3 - The Islamic Republic, whose defining mission includes the elimination of the Jewish state, launched missiles and drones this week at Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain, continuing a months-long pattern of striking every nearby American-aligned capital except the one named in the chants.
Iranian forces fired ballistic missiles at Camp Titin in southern Jordan overnight Tuesday and sent drones into Kuwait City, where one struck a residential complex and started a fire. Bahrain said its air defenses intercepted incoming aircraft and accused Tehran of targeting civilians. The United Arab Emirates reported intercepting an Iranian drone over its waters earlier in the week. Officials in all four countries said most projectiles were shot down; debris and at least one impact still caused damage and injuries.
None of the barrages targeted Israel.
That omission has held, with brief interruption, since early June, when Tehran and Jerusalem exchanged fire after an Israeli strike in Beirut and then stopped. In the interval, Iranian commanders have repeatedly described the annihilation of Israel as a religious and strategic duty. Friday prayers, state television, and Revolutionary Guard statements have not revised the slogan.
Regime defenders assured reporters Iran will strike “the Zionist Entity” with “a crushing blow” any day now, just you wait.
A Guard spokesman said the latest launches were “legitimate punishment” for U.S. strikes on Iranian military sites and for Arab governments that host American forces. He did not explain why the country whose destruction is a standing official goal was left off the flight plan. Asked whether the missiles could reach Israel, he said they could, and had.
Regional militaries have intercepted the bulk of the incoming fire. Jordan reported ten of thirteen ballistic missiles destroyed; three fell in remote areas. Kuwait put out the dawn blaze in the capital. Bahrain kept sirens going through the morning. The pattern matches earlier waves this year against Qatar, Oman, Saudi infrastructure, and Gulf desalination and power plants: large numbers of drones and missiles, frequent claims of destroyed U.S. radar and hangars, limited confirmed damage to the advertised targets, and no equivalent effort against Israeli facilities.
Analysts in Tehran who still have jobs noted that hitting Israel invites an answer the regime has already received, while hitting Jordan or Kuwait invites statements of condemnation and another night of American bombs on launchers. The analysts requested anonymity, which in current conditions is also a targeting preference.
State media led Wednesday with footage of intercepted wreckage in Manama and a burning rooftop in Kuwait, then cut to a crowd chanting “Death to Israel.” The two segments were not presented as a puzzle. Officials said the struggle continues on all fronts. The fronts, for now, are the ones that do not shoot back with the same intensity.
