“From the river to the sea… why is that guy speaking Farsi?”

Dubai, May 21 – At least 17 activists are dead and dozens more wounded after a “Freedom Flotilla” intended to challenge Israel’s naval embargo of Gaza instead sailed directly into Iranian-controlled waters and provoked a furious response from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.
Organizers from the Gaza-bound coalition, which included activists from Europe, the United States, and Turkey, expressed shock and confusion at the outcome. “We were supposed to be breaking the siege of Gaza,” said flotilla spokeswoman Fatima al-Halabi, speaking from a hospital bed in Dubai while recovering from shrapnel wounds. “Why were there so many Iranian flags? And why did they start shooting immediately? This is clearly a Zionist plot to confuse us.”
The six-ship convoy, carrying what organizers described as “humanitarian aid and symbolic resistance,” departed last week with great fanfare. GPS data recovered from one of the vessels suggests the navigators relied heavily on Google Maps set to “avoid Israeli waters” and a hand-drawn map labeled “Bad Zionists This Way.” The route somehow took them 1,200 nautical miles off course into one of the world’s most heavily militarized chokepoints.
Iranian forces, already on edge due to regional tensions, opened fire after the lead vessel, the MV Rachel Corrie 2: Electric Boogaloo, reportedly attempted to ram a Revolutionary Guard patrol boat while broadcasting chants of “From the river to the sea… why is that guy speaking Farsi?”
Survivors described scenes of chaos as Iranian commandos boarded the ships. “They kept yelling at us about being American spies and Mossad agents,” said British activist Nigel Smythe-Thompson. “I tried to explain we were only against the Zionist entity, but they didn’t seem to appreciate the nuance. One of them actually laughed before tasering me.”
Israeli officials, reached for comment, wore smirks. “We’ve been telling them for years that the real blockade they should worry about is the one in their own backyard,” said IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Avital Leibovich. “But sure, go protest us. We’ll wait.”
Back in Gaza, Hamas officials issued a statement condemning the incident as “yet another example of Iranian betrayal of the resistance,” while simultaneously praising the martyrs for their “brave navigational error.” One Hamas operative suggested that, given the proclivities of those involved, the activists may have become distracted by the sound of the first syllable in Hormuz.
Organizers have already announced plans for a follow-up flotilla, this time promising “more accurate GPS and a strongly worded letter to Tehran.” Meanwhile, maritime insurance rates for vessels displaying Palestinian flags have tripled.
